  • Directions for use

PaintNuts Scratch & Scuff Remover, Microfibre Cloth & High Grade Polishing Pad

    1. Ensure the area is spotlessly clean, free of grease and other contaminants and dry
    2. The polishing pad can optionally be attached to a hand drill using a drill backing pad (sold separately). Please note: The white surface is to attach the polishing pad to a drill backing plate. The white surface is not for application of the compound. Do not apply polishing compound to the white surface and do not attempt to polish the paintwork with the white surface.
    3. Apply scratch and scuff paste to the yellow / orange compound polishing pad
    4. Apply even pressure and spread paste in a straight back and forth motion then up and down for around 15-30 seconds until the mark is diminished
    5. Stop once the scratch is removed or if the paint begins to fade.
    6. Remove all residue with the clean dry microfibre cloth

PaintNuts Panel Wipe Degreaser & Degreasing Cloth

Before application of primer, paint or lacquer the surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed. Squirt a small amount of panel wipe to the degreasing cloth then wipe the area clean and dry using the specially developed degreasing cloth. Don’t allow panel wipe chemicals to dry on the car, if it does then reapply and wipe it dry. If rust is present we suggest a rust treatment as well.

    PaintNuts Grey Primer Bottle

    1. Shake bottle thoroughly for at least 60 seconds to ensure the primer is mixed correctly.
    2. The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed using Panel Wipe, as advised above.
    3. Using the brush apply light coats in smooth strokes, ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Leave the primer to dry for 10-25 minutes before applying a second coat if required. Leave the primer to cure 24 hours before applying the colour matched paint.

    Colour Matched Paint Bottle

    - Prepare & Clean: The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and grease is removed using Panel Wipe, as advised above.

    - Shake & Test:

    • Shake the touch up car paint pen for 2-3 minutes to ensure the paint is thoroughly mixed.  If your paint is metallic or pearlescent, you may notice it has separated within the bottle - this paint will need a vigorous shake, even leave it upside down for 5 minutes first.
    • Unscrew to access the brush attached to the lid within the paint. Before using the brush, please ensure you remove any excess paint from the stem of the brush, i.e scrape inside of the bottle neck.
    • Test a small amount of paint within the damaged area to check the colour match – give it 15 minutes to dry as paints can often appear different in colour; inside the bottle, when still wet or if applied incorrectly or onto original undamaged paint work.

    - Paint & Finish:

    • With either the pen nib or brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; ensuring you only apply the paint within the damaged area
If you’re using the needle point pen allow the nib to sit inside the scratch or chip and squeeze gently. If new paint goes outside of the damaged area and on top of existing paint it will leave the area of repair looking darker or raised to a higher level than the original bodywork.
    • Leave the paint to dry for 15 minutes before applying any further coats from the car touch up pen. If no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 hour before applying the PaintNuts Clear Lacquer.

PLEASE NOTE: – cold, damp weather can adversely affect the application, finish, and drying time of paints.

    PaintNuts Clear Lacquer Bottle

    1. Shake thoroughly for at least 60 seconds to ensure the lacquer is mixed correctly.
    2. The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed using Panel Wipe, as advised above.
    3. Using either pen or brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allowing the brush to sit in the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the lacquer witin the damaged area. Leave the lacquer to dry for 10-25 minutes before applying a second coat if required. Leave the lacquer to cure 24 hours before applying any polish.

Perfect bundle for the job

The PaintNuts touch-up bottle bundle is ideal for large chips, scuffs and grazes. Below is our recommended guide for using and applying touch-up paint effectively.

If you have a deep scuff, chip or graze OR if you can see bare metal or plastic, we recommend using PaintNuts Primer first - if rust is present, we suggest our Rust Convertor as well.

How to use the PaintNuts Bottle

Simple steps for a perfect touch up
Do this in three simple steps...
  • Mix and check
  • Prepare the area
  • Apply the products
STEP ONE1
How to use the PaintNuts Grey PrimerUse the Grey Primer
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed. If rust is present, we suggest a rust treatment as well.
  • Mixing - Shake bottle thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the primer is mixed correctly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Leave the primer to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying any further coats, if no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 full hour before applying the PaintNuts Colour Matched Touch Up Pen.
STEP TWO2
How to use the PaintNuts Colour Matched Touch Up PaintUse the Colour Matched Paint
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Mixing & Colour Check - Shake the bottle for 2-3 Minutes to ensure the paint is thoroughly mixed correctly (if your paint is a Metallic Paint, you may notice the paint has separated within the bottle, this paint will need a vigorous shake, then test in a discreet area to check the colour match leaving the paint to dry for 15 minutes – paints will often appear different in colour inside the bottle, when wet or if applied incorrectly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Do Not apply new paint on top of existing paint as this will leave the area of repair looking lighter or darker. Leave the colour matched paint to dry for up to 15 mins before applying any further coats, if no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 full hour before applying the PaintNuts Clear Lacquer.
STEP THREE3
How to use the PaintNuts Clear LacquerUse the Clear Lacquer
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Mixing - Shake bottle thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the lacquer is mixed correctly.
  • Application - Using the brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; allow the brush to sit inside the scratch or chip ensuring you only apply the primer within the damaged area. Leave the lacquer to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying a second coat if required, if no further coat is required, you must leave the lacquer to cure for 4 hours before you use any buffing or polishing solution/compound.

FAQs

If you need additional assistance on a query not answered below, please email customer support at [email protected].

Do I need to use a primer and lacquer?

A primer is only required if your chip or scratch goes down to the metal and if any rust is present. A lacquer is recommended in most instances – especially with metallic paints. It should be applied 24 hours after the coloured coat and will give a perfect finish.

How do I get the touch up to look its best?

The key to applying a successful touch up is smooth, light strokes and building up layers to the original paintwork level - leave to dry for 10-25 minutes between coats or 24 hours before lacquer. See our guide on using touch-up pens.

Can you mix pearlescent paints?

Most modern paints are metallic and many are pearlescent - and we can mix 99% of pearlescent paint codes. However, there are a few tri-colour mixes that cannot be matched. Search for your paint code using your reg number.
