Vauxhall Corsa over the years
One of the most common cars on UK roads, the Vauxhall Corsa has still managed to stand out from the crowd. A model everyone is familiar with from a brand everyone has heard of, the Vauxhall Corsa has still managed to appeal to motorists across the country. There have been 6 generations of the Corsa and each one has been different from the last. Early popular colours include: 26L Fjordblau, 83L Mistral Grey and 10L Glacier white.
The first generation Vauxhall Corsa was actually called the Vauxhall Nova. Launched in 1982, the Nova did well. In its 10-year reign, Vauxhall shifted half a million Novas in Britain alone. In fact, it was the UK’s best selling car in 1989. Competing with the Ford Fiesta and Austin Metro, the Nova was the first supermini Vauxhall introduced in the UK market.
In 1993, Vauxhall changed the name to Corsa. The Vauxhall Corsa of this era had a rounder shape and softer edges with ‘saucer eye’ headlamps. It was longer, more spacious than the Nova and had higher safety standards too.
Seven years later, Vauxhall released the next generation up. Although having a long wheel base and a wider stance, allowing for more room inside, not much changed with this model. There were a few differences, however. Greater power and lower fuel consumption compared to previous models still made this generation of Vauxhall Corsa an improvement.
In 2006, Vauxhall released the Corsa D. Where previous generations kept the design of the 3-door and 5-door Corsas similar, Vauxhall chose to make them more distinguishable this time. The three doors had a sportier appearance, and had similarities to the early Novas. The 5-door Corsas had the look of a family orientated car.
The release of the Vauxhall Corsa E in 2014 saw a more stylish, sleeker version of the Corsa and it came with a Santa’s sack full of new tech too. This generation was also the first time Vauxhall made hot-hatch versions of the Corsa with the release of GSi and VXR models.
Fast forward to 2019, Vauxhall released the Corsa F - the most recent Corsa model. Vauxhall have capitalised on the buzz of the electric vehicle craze with the release of a fully electric version of the Corsa. Of course, petrol and diesel versions are still available. Whatever format Vauxhall decides to release future Corsas in, we’re glad to see it still on the roads. Popular new colours include: G1R Pepperoncino Red, GPQ Orange Fizz and GAL Technical Grey Metallic.
