BMW 3 series car paint over the years
Introduced in 1975, the BMW 3 series has been with us for seven generations. In that time we have seen many modifications to the 3 series, going from a long, rectangular shape to a sleeker more aerodynamic design. Technology has changed vastly too. Unsurprisingly, with times that change, colour palettes do too.
Over the years, BMW has typically offered a series of metallic, pearl, classic and special paint colours. The year the BMW 3 series was introduced, 1975, the car was available in BMW 300 Alpine White as well as 070 Golf Yellow, 021 Malaga Red and 475 Black Sapphire Metallic. There were of course plenty of other colours motorists could choose. One of these proved so popular that BMW continues to offer their modern models in the same shade.
Come 1984, the colours offered by BMW majoritively remained unchanged for the 3 series. There was one introduction though to the colour range - 280 Glacier Blue Metallic. At first glance, you would be forgiven for thinking that this colour was silver rather than blue. However, on closer inspection there is a slight blue hue to the BMW paint colour, just like the glacial melt waters.
For 14 years, BMW kept the colour range the same for the 3 series. Approaching the danger of becoming set in their ways, BMW decided to give motorists a fresher range of colours for the 3 series that reflected more modern times. Still keeping with old favourites like BMW 300 Alpine White and BMW 085 Chamonix Silver Metallic, there was a breadth of new colours available too. A couple of these colours include, A08 Silver Grey Metallic and 405 Imola Red BMW paint colour.
Fast forward to present day and we see that only two of BMWs original colours have stood the test of time. The new model 3 series is still being offered in either 300 Alpine White and A83 Glacier Silver Metallic. Other BMW paint colours available in 2023 are 668 Jet Black BMW paint colour, C4P Brooklyn Grey Metallic and C3Z Tanzanite Blue Metallic.
