Volkswagen Passat over the years
A car with plenty of heritage, the Volkswagen Passat has been with us since 1973. Even way back in the 1970s, the first generation Passat had the unmistakable sloping rear end that characterises the model. With that aside, the overall shape wasn’t far off the shape of the classic BMW 5 series with its, long and rectangular design. Whilst the interior of the first generation Volkswagen Passat was minimalist, offering buyers little to no optionality, it was a different story for the paint colours, which included Marina Blue, Senegal Red and Alaska White.
The second and third generations of the Volkswagen Passat were much of the same exterior wise. That said, the second generation Passat was slightly larger than the first and it also had a much improved interior. Paint colours for the second and third generation Passat included Tornado Red, Saphir Blue, Satin Silver and Pearl Grey.
Come the 1990s, the Passat generations released in this decade were notability 90s in exterior styling and a longitudinally-mounted engine was seen for the first time, and among other Volkswagen models, only on the Passat. Paint colours for the Passat in the 1990s included Brilliant Black, Green Mica, Galactic Blue and Candy White.
After the millennium, there was much change over the course of several more Volkswagen Passat Generations. Updates included VR6 and W8 engines, as well as a change to the interior that focused more on luxury than previously. Of course, there was an update to the colour palette too, with Volkswagen Passat paint colours on offer including Black Magic Pearl, Moorland Green, Opera Red and Glacier Blue.
Currently in 2024, we are on the 8th generation of the Volkswagen Passat. Although retaining some familiar aspects from the previous model like the 2.0L turbo-four engine, this generation has seen a bigger transformation than other models before it, with even Volkswagen calling it ‘the new Passat’. When purchasing, motorists have the option of several Volkswagen Passat paint colours including Chilli Red, Mariposit Green, Reef Blue and Diabase Grey.
