Audi A4 over the years
The Audi A4 has its roots firmly in rally sport with Audi’s success in the WRC with its iconic Quattro in the 1980s. Despite that, the first generation of the A4 wasn’t released until 1994. With longitudinal-mounted engines and a sleek and streamlined design, along with all-wheel drive, there was a lot that made the first generation A4 stand out from its competitors. If that wasn’t enough to persuade motorists into purchasing an A4, Audi released a tasteful colour palette which included Audi paint colours like Brilliant Black, Laser Red, Europa Blue and Casablanca White.
Come 2001, Audi released the second generation of the A4. This time, Audi decided to give the A4 and more mature and refined exterior design and a longer wheelbase too. As a result, this meant that there was more room on the inside and better handling than its predecessor. This generation was also the first time Audi introduced the S4 variant, which had a 3.2-litre V6 engine. Audi paint colours for the second generation A4 included Brilliant Red, Denim Blue and Delfin Grey.
Following the second generation came the third and fourth generations, respectively released in 2005 and 2015. These generations saw more change, with the third generation being the first time Audi made the front grille single-frame rather than split into two. The third generation was also the first time Audi released the RS4 variant, which had a 420 hp, 4.2-litre V8 engine.
As of 2024, the fifth generation Audi A4 is the most recent. This generation has a bulkier appearance and an even longer wheelbase. The interior is different too, with digital controls and a more refined style. Available in Saloon and Avant body styles, as well as the RS4 variant still being on offer, and an enticing paint colour selection which includes Mythos Black, Navara Blue and Gletscher White, there’s a lot still to excite motorists with the Audi A4.
