Norton Topcoat Preparation Sanding Sheets - High-quality sanding sheets project pack, specifically for topcoat preparation. Pack includes multiple grades of abrasive sheets (2 x P600, 2 x P800 and 2 x P1000 grit). Ideal for preparing primer prior to applying topcoat paint. Includes a simple step-by-step guide.  Use the provided sticky tack rag to remove any remaining dust or dirt particles after sanding.

PaintNuts Panel Wipe Degreaser (500ml Aerosol) is a perfect degreasing agent to ensure removal of any remaining silicone, grease, oil, wax, dirt, tar or soot contaminants - essential for pre-paint preparation. Apply degreaser in smooth coats and immediately wipe the area with the provided "crow's foot" degreasing cloth for a streak-ree removal of the panel wipe and any contaminants. Ensure you don't allow the panel wipe to dry out. If it does, reapply and wipe away immediately. The degreasing cloth is tear resistant and tolerant of solvents, so can be re-used multiple times.

PaintNuts Grey Primer (500ml Aerosol) is suitable for use on both bare metal and plastic bodywork, providing a smooth base layer which will aid paint adhesion and protect against potential rusting / corrosion.

PaintNuts Colour Matched Spray Paint (400ml Aerosol) - Just provide your vehicle's registration number or paint code and we'll do the rest. We use the latest in precision paint mixing and dispensing technology to ensure an exact match to your vehicle's original paint colour. Its adjustable spray nozzle allows for either vertical or horizontal spray fan application.  PaintNuts car paints are bodyshop quality automotive paints. Spray paint application is ideal for larger dent repairs or respraying of wing mirrors, bumpers, panels, etc.

PaintNuts Clear Lacquer (500ml Aerosol) provides a clear high-gloss protective coating and is specifically developed for use with our colour matched paints. Provides the perfect finish to enhance gloss levels and to improve environmental and physical protection. Can be used over PaintNuts Colour Matched Car Paints, including paint colours with a pealescent or metallic finish.

Use the included protective powder free nitrile gloves throughout for protection and cleanliness.

  • Directions for use

    PaintNuts Panel Wipe

    • Shake aerosol for at least 2 minutes to ensure the panel wipe is mixed correctly
    • Either vertically or horizontally apply in smooth cross coats 250mm distance from the repair area. Immediately wipe the area with the PaintNuts degreasing cloth ensuring you don't allow the panel wipe to dry out - if it does, reapply then wipe dry.
    • Wipe with the provided sticky tack rag to remove any remaining dust particles
    • Repeat this process at each stage prior to application of primer, paint and lacquer to ensure a clean surface for application

    PaintNuts Grey Primer Aerosol

    • Shake the aerosol thoroughly for at least two minutes, after the agitator ball is free to ensure the primer is mixed correctly.
    • Apply in cross coats from a distance of 25cm from the object, ensuring you only apply the primer witin the intended area.
    • Leave the primer to dry for 10-25 minutes before applying a second coat if required. Leave the primer to cure 24 hours before applying the colour matched paint.

    Norton Topcoat Sanding Paper

    • Step 1: Ensure primer is fully dry before sanding
    • Step 2: Using the 600 grit sheet sand the primed surface area, removing any defects and dirt particles – sand in one direction only to achieve an even scratch pattern.
    • Step 3: With the 800 grit paper, sand the full repair area to remove scratches from step 2. Again sand in one direction for an even finish.
    • Step 4: With the 1000 grade paper, sand the full repair area ensuring all scratches from step 3 are removed. Continue to sand in one direction.
    • Fully degrease and wipe the repair area, ensuring the surface is free from dirt
    • Tip: For best results use the grits in sequence, apply even pressure when sanding and use a sanding block for an even finish, for use by hand and use dry.

    PaintNuts Colour Matched Paint Aerosol

    • Prepare & Clean: The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and grease is removed. Use the PaintNuts Panel Wipe spray and Degreasing Cloth to clean, and then the sticky tack rag provided to remove any remaining dust particles.
    • Shake & Test: Shake can for 2-3 minutes to ensure the paint within the can is mixed. Before applying the car spray paint to the vehicle, we recommend testing the colour and which spray pattern you require; you can adjust the nozzle to spray horizontally or vertically. On white card - check how many coats you require to match the original colour. Too few coats will look too light, too much car spray paint / too many coats will make the colour too dark.
    • Paint & Finish: Either vertically or horizontally apply in smooth cross coats 250mm distance from the repair. Leave to dry for 15 minutes before applying a second coat of car spray paint if necessary and leave 4 hours before applying PaintNuts lacquer. After use, turn the car paint spray upside down to empty nozzle valve to clean then it can be reused at a later date.
    • Please note: Aerosols should not be applied in cold, damp weather – it will adversely affect the application, finish, and drying time. The recommended minimum temperature for using car spray paint is 15+ degrees, preferably room temperature indoors in a warm and well-ventilated area.

    PaintNuts Clear Lacquer Aerosol

    • Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free of any dust or grease
    • Minimum application temperature is 15 degrees Celsius
    • Apply in cross coats at a distance of 250mm, leaving 3-5 minutes between coats
    • Drying time: 10 - 25 minutes; Fully Cured: 24 hours
    • After use, turn the can upside down and spray until the valve is clean preventing the valve from clogging up

Perfect bundle for the job

The PaintNuts touch-up aerosol bundle is ideal for addressing large bodywork repairs. Below is our recommended guide for using and applying touch-up paint effectively.

If you have a deep bodywork damage OR if you can see bare metal or plastic, we recommend using PaintNuts Primer first - if rust is present, we suggest our Rust Convertor as well.

How to use the PaintNuts Aerosol

Simple steps for a perfect touch up
Do this in three simple steps...
  • Mix and check
  • Prepare the area
  • Apply the products
STEP ONE1
How to use the PaintNuts Grey PrimerUse the Grey Primer
  • Mixing - Shake aerosol thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the primer is mixed correctly.
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed. If rust is present we suggest a rust treatment as well.
  • Application - Apply in cross coats from a distance of 25cm from the object, ensuring you only apply the primer within the intended area. Leave the primer to dry for 10-25 minutes before applying a second coat if required. Leave the primer to cure for 2 hours before applying the colour matched paint.
STEP TWO2
How to use the PaintNuts Colour Matched Touch Up PaintUse the Colour Matched Paint
  • Mixing & Colour Check - Shake the Paint Pen for at least 3 Minutes to ensure the paint is thoroughly mixed correctly (if your paint is a Metallic Paint, you may notice the paint has separated within the bottle, this paint will need a vigourous shake, then test in a discreet area to check the colour match leaving the paint to dry for 10 minutes – paints will often appear different in colour inside the bottle, when wet or if applied incorrectly.
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Application - Using either the metal nib/pen or brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; if you’re using the needle point pen allow the nib to sit inside the scratch or chip and squeeze gently ensuring you only apply the paint within the damaged area. Do Not apply new paint on top of existing paint as this will leave the area of repair looking lighter or darker. Leave the colour matched paint to dry for upto 30 mins before applying any further coats, if no further coat is required, then leave to cure for 1 full hour before applying the PaintNuts Clear Lacquer.
STEP THREE3
How to use the PaintNuts Clear LacquerUse the Clear Lacquer
  • Mixing - Shake pen thoroughly for at least 1 minute to ensure the lacquer is mixed correctly.
  • Preparation - The surface must be clean and dry - make sure all wax, polish and dust is removed.
  • Application - Using either pen or brush apply thin, light coats in smooth strokes; if you’re using the needle point pen allow the nib to sit in the scratch or chip and squeeze gently ensuring you only apply the lacquer witin the damaged area. Leave the lacquer to dry for up to 30 minutes before applying a second coat if required, if no further coat is required, you must leave the lacquer to cure for 4 hours before you use any buffing or polishing solution/compound.

FAQs

If you need additional assistance on a query not answered below, please email customer support at [email protected].

Do I need to use a primer and lacquer?

A primer is only required if your chip or scratch goes down to the metal and if any rust is present. A lacquer is recommended in most instances – especially with metallic paints. It should be applied 24 hours after the coloured coat and will give a perfect finish.

How do I get the touch up to look its best?

The key to applying a successful touch up is smooth, light strokes and building up layers to the original paintwork level - leave to dry for 10-25 minutes between coats or 24 hours before lacquer. See our guide on using touch-up pens.

Can you mix pearlescent paints?

Most modern paints are metallic and many are pearlescent - and we can mix 99% of pearlescent paint codes. However, there are a few tri-colour mixes that cannot be matched. Search for your paint code using your reg number.
