Nissan introduced its SUV crossover the Qashqai in 2006 and ever since it has been one of the most popular crossover SUVs on UK roads. In fact, the Qashqai has been so successful that it has influenced many other car manufacturers to release their own family SUVs like the Peugeot 3008 and the Kia Sportage.
The Nissan Qashqai was designed to be a more tasteful version of the traditional blocky and upright SUVs that were popular at the time. On its release, multiple engine options were available including a 139bhp 2.0L petrol engine and also engines that ran on diesel.
With the target of selling 10,000 Qashqai family SUVs per year, Nissan smashed through its target by shifting 1.24 million units of the first generation Qashqai in Europe in its first seven years - averaging over 177,000 units per year. Given the success of the vehicle, Nissan decided to change the name of the Qashqai in Australia to Dualis, worrying its original name would be pronounced “cash cow”, an ironic change to say the least given the model’s huge success.
One of the draws which contributed to the Nissan Qashqai’s success is the sleek and modern design the crossover SUV comes with. Sleek lines, a distinctive V-Motion grille, and other unique characteristics, the Qashqai stands out in its class with modern and unique exterior styling choices.
In recent years, Nissan has been transitioning from petrol and diesel powered vehicles to hybrid and all-electric variants instead. The new Qashqai models come with EV-mode, e-pedal step technology, premium quilted-leather seats and other features that all combine to give drivers a smoother, quieter ride. With e-POWER technology available or hybrid options, Nissan continues to evolve the Qashqai with the times, ensuring its success is something that Nissan continues to endure.
